About Me

Alysia: “The content of my work speaks about my outdoor athletic pursuits, travel and nature. Ultimately I convey my experiences in a way that is meaningful to me and presented in a way that provokes emotion and stimulates my memories. I develop work by referencing geography and symbols that are significant to place. In order to convey a scene of environment, I use forms from nature, including topography to influence my process. The physical way I view and traverse landscape, is the inspiration for the imagery I create in my work. I have chosen to approach painting in a loose, spontaneous and interactive way. For the purpose of process, I depict my memories, as a manipulation of forms by layering washes of paint and incorporating imagery, that to me implies a level of human interaction. This enables me to depict an environment on the canvas. The painting process originates by working wet into wet, the unexpected path the paint takes, inspires me and allows me to maintain the integrity of my abstract approach. By rendering elements of landscape, I am able to represent environments, which supports my perspective and interaction with landscape. Layering creates my abstract narrative.”
